Photowalking and the idea of derive...

Derive is a concept of loosing yourself in a urban space and opening your eyes and your mind to what you see. "Derive" was used by the french situationists, an intellectual group and was apply to art. It is strongly linked with psychology and how your emotion reacts to the the urban space, People, atmosphere, geometry, colors, etc... By loosing all your marks, you will be able to finally open your eyes...
Psychogeograpy, situationist, derive, are keywords you can type on the web for more information

Photowalking is also a form of derive that consists of walking around town and shooting interesting pictures. Miksang photography is a more emotional form of art, for more information about it, please read my previous article.

An amazing website...

Simon Hogsberg is a very interesting portrait photographer. You can check his work online and see how "he sees people". His portrait might look a bit unusual for you, but this type of approach is also interesting in portrait photography and might give you some ideas about how to approach people.
Check his website here!

He also did an amazing project: a 100 meter wall photo using a collection of portrait shot on one location but merged in one panorama. The faces and expressions clearly suggested that the photographer used a "snap-in-your-face" approach... Check it out!

Miksang Photography

Miksang photography is based on shambalana, a form of tibetan buddhism. Contemplative photography focusing mostly on simple object or views but always trying to show something that is hiding through photography. For a better explanation please check this website: http://www.miksang.com/miksang.html
As they use simple photos and are good for illustration, do not hesitate to check it out. Miksang works a lot with composition, if you need to improve your skill in this area, then you can look at these links below:
